The University Archives & Special Collections Reading Room is open from 1:00- 5:00, Monday- Friday. If you would like to visit between 9:00- 1:00 or spend a full day, you must schedule an appointment in advance. You can also schedule an appointment during Open Hours if you would like additional research assistance from a staff member.
To request an appointment, contact firstname.lastname@example.org with a concise description of your research interests, what you hope to find, and any relevant collections you've found in ArchiveSearch or collection guides by collection number and name. Please provide 2-3 possible appointment times. Appointments can be scheduled between 9:00 and 5:00, Monday- Friday. Unfortunately, UASC is not open evenings, weekends, or university holidays. Outside researchers should request an appointment at least one week in advance; IIT students, faculty and staff can request an appointment two days in advance. The earlier you contact UASC, the more accommodating we can be about your preferred times.
What to expect during your visit:
When you arrive, an archivist will briefly talk with you about your project to help make your search as profitable as possible. Be prepared to give a brief description of your project and what you are hoping to find, including any material you have already identified through ArchiveSearch or in our collection guides. Once you've choosen materials, an archivist will retrieve them from the closed stacks. You will be able to view one collection at a time. In some cases, we may be able to also refer you to other Chicago area repositories. See Rules Governing the Use of Collections for more information on general Reading Room policies.
