An Opportunity for Private and Public Investment in Rebuilding Chicago had a broader scope than just the IIT campus. Published in 1947, just two years after the end of the war, "by six private and public organizations concerned with the rebuilding of a slum area," the coalition proposed a sweeping redevelopment of the three square mile area bounded by 22nd St., the Pennsylvania Railroad (west of White Sox park), 39th St., and Lake Michigan -- all "at the cost of a battleship."
