In 1998, IIT created the position of University Archivist to provide for the body of materials which had been housed in Galvin Library for more than ten years. In November of that year Catherine Bruck was hired and began the work of organizing and cataloguing materials which had been acquired during two earlier archival efforts.
Ralph Pugh was hired to the newly created position of University Assistant Archivist in 2006.

Catherine Bruck holds a B. A. in American Studies from the University of Iowa and an M. A. in Museum Science from Texas Tech University where she studied archival administration. She has more than ten years of experience working with archival collections in small museums, historical repositories, the public sector, and college settings. She is a member of the Society of American Archivists, Midwest Archives Conference and Chicago Area Archivists.

Ralph Pugh holds a B.A. in History from Kalamazoo College (Mich.) and an M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of Chicago . He is a Certified Archivist (CA) and has twenty years of experience working with archival collections, mainly at the Chicago History Museum , where he also curated exhibits and served as a public historian. He has also taught history at Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. He is a member of the American Historical Association, the Midwest Archives Conference and Chicago Area Archivists.
