The IIT Archives is open for walk-in patrons on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm and on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30 am - noon. Office hours are 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Email and phone requests are welcome anytime. If you are coming from off campus, contacting the Archives in advance of your visit is encouraged.
The University Archivist is pleased to serve the IIT community and outside scholars in their search for information about the University's history. Certain "ready reference" type inquiries may be answered directly, and your phone, fax or email inquiries are welcome. Keep in mind, however, that the archivist is here primarily to assist you in identifying materials that will be helpful to you. It is her role to supply you with those collections, papers, documents and resources which may help you conduct your research. In most cases, you will need to look at the materials yourself. If you cannot come to IIT in person to conduct your research, a list of researchers for hire is available. If you call or come to the Archives to initiate a research request, a "reference interview" will be conducted by the archivist to help make your search as profitable as possible. When contacting us with a request in writing, please be as complete and specific as possible. If you found something in our on-line finding aids that may be of interest, please identify it for us. In some cases, we may be able to refer you to other repositories in the Chicago area. If you have already contacted others locally, or were referred to us by someone, please identify them for us. |
